Here are just a few ways we are focusing on these key areas of research resources, partnerships, and participation:

Research Resources

Support for baseball-related research, books, articles, and member resources, including:

  • Introduction of new SABR Research Grants, funding multidisciplinary studies that reflect our expansive research domains and strengthening SABR's position as the home for the world's most advanced baseball research
  • Expansion of ProQuest offerings to include the US Collection, bringing archival offerings for SABR members up to the present day with more than 600 publication titles from 35 states, including significant newspapers from major-league cities
  • Incorporation of the Lahman Baseball Database, containing complete batting and pitching statistics back to 1871, plus fielding statistics, standings, team stats, managerial records, postseason data, and more, into SABR.org
  • Licensing of the Seamheads Negro Leagues Database and eventual integration into the Lahman Baseball Database at SABR.org, creating a comprehensive archive of major league statistics

Partnerships

Building collaborations that add value to our members and expand our presence inside and outside of the baseball world, like:

  • Creation and promotion of Institutional Memberships, which give organizations like libraries, historical societies, museums, high schools and higher education departments access to SABR’s vast resources while connecting us to groups and opportunities not previously explored
  • Pilot partnership with Abilene Christian University, integrating SABR’s Analytics Certification courses into ACU’s academic and professional development programs with a focus on adapting SABR’s analytics training for inclusion in degree offerings and non-degree certificates
  • Working alongside Major League Baseball’s inclusive fellowship programs to welcome hundreds of students into SABR membership via the SABR Analytics Conference
  • Aligning with baseball technology leaders Rapsodo to give SABR certification course learners the opportunity to also engage with technical skill-building programming

Participation

Expanding opportunities to engage in baseball programming, research, scholarship, and fellowship, including:

  • Introduction of Level Four of the SABR Analytics Certification program in late 2025, rounding out the curriculum ladder which launched in 2022
  • Establishing an annual SABR Founders’ Day event on August 10 to celebrate the pioneers who built SABR and the Founder’s Day Award recognizing a member who has contributed significant or enduring service as a leader of a regional chapter or research committee
  • Hosting monthly New Member Experience virtual meetings, where new SABR members are introduced to key membership benefits and encouraged to get involved with various groups, like research committees, Games Project, BioProject, and SABR publications

And the work doesn’t stop there, as SABR committees, chapters, and individual researchers are continually creating new resources and programs for our members and the global baseball community.
